Re: DL 320 G3 Share Network Port for NIC & iLO

I finally setup the option for shared network port for iLO.
Is that mean that I network cable only connect to 1 port.Any idea which port does the network cable need to be connect to?
NIC1 or 2?

Re: DL 320 G3 Share Network Port for NIC & iLO

Some servers support a shared network port. Typically the shared port is the integrated NIC 1 on the host. This feature provides access to a subset of iLO functions without use of the dedicated iLO network port.

There are several ways to configure this setting:
- Browser (only if not using the shared network port)
- iLO RBSU
- RIBCL XML Scripts
- SSH

Today, you cannot access iLO using a browser if it is configured to use the shared network port. If you require browser access, you must change back to the dedicated iLO network port.

Well, If i enable the share port, I cant manage to SSH or telnet.
What is the point to enable the share port?

SSH and telnet are supported over the Shared Network Port.

Both of these features can be enabled or disabled in iLO configuration, so I would check there first. Also make sure they are using the ports that you expect.

Personally, I use puTTY to SSH to iLO, and I do not have any problems with it.

You can use the Lights Out Configuration Utility and a sample XML script to examine the current configuration.

Re: DL 320 G3 Share Network Port for NIC & iLO

Shared network port does not require a host OS to be running. I do not believe that it requires the host to be on, only plugged-in.

Do I understand this right:
- using the dedicated iLO port, you can SSH into iLO,
- reconfiguring just the network to use the shared network port, you cannot SSH into iLO?

Are you sure that:
- The shared network port is connected to the network
- iLO has an IP address on the shared network port
- you are connecting to the same iLO?

Here are the troubleshooting steps I would use:
1) Use iLO RBSU and configure iLO to shared network port.
2) clear iLO IP address
3) exit iLO RBSU. iLO resets.
4) reboot the host and re-enter iLO RBSU
5) check the iLO network settings to see that a valid IP address has been obtained. Assuming DHCP, you can check out the DHCP lease status from RBSU as well.
6) If iLO now has an IP address on the shared network port, ping it from your client, and then attempt to connect using SSH.

A few other things to try if the troubleshooting steps do not help:
- Update iLO firmware
- use iLO RBSU to reset to defaults
- re-enter RBSU and reconfigure for Shared network port

Re: DL 320 G3 Share Network Port for NIC & iLO

I only able to ping the iLO IP address when I'm disable my share network port.

I' really have no idea what went wrong..
