Test riloe-II boards via laptop crossover cable
As these ribs won't be patched into the network until they're physically moved into the new datacentre, we want to confirm that they're working ok by connecting them up to our laptops via crossover cables.
I've set a static ip (10.73.44.203) & subnet mask (255.255.254.0) on my laptop to match what the rib ip has been set to (10.73.44.204), however I still can't ping the rib board. It just keeps timing out.
Has anyone else done this before? Any ideas?

Re: Test riloe-II boards via laptop crossover cable
Finally got my hands on a spare hub; plugged in a standard network cable from the rib to the hub, then another cable from the hub to the laptop - I still can't ping the rib... any other ideas?

Re: Test riloe-II boards via laptop crossover cable
I take it the point here is that there might be an issue with the rib.
I will therefore try and find a rib that I 100% know is working, then connect up my crossover and test it again.

Re: Test riloe-II boards via laptop crossover cable
We've been adhering to the riloe II slot matrix --> http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/remote-lightsout/server-slot-matrix.html... so yep, slot 1.

Re: Test riloe-II boards via laptop crossover cable
same hub.Can you ping those machines from your laptop.
Just to confirm RILOE-II is fine please follow the steps below.
1.Reboot the server which has RILOE-II.
2.Just check if the BIOS displays
"HP Remote Insight Remote Edition Press F8
to configure".
3.If it displays the RILOE-II is fine.
4.Check the RILOE-II Network settings are fine by pressing F8 at step 2.

Re: Test riloe-II boards via laptop crossover cable
Unfortunately these servers are in production so I can't reboot any of them.
The install procedure used was:
- shutdown server
- insert rib, connect internal cable
- power up, enter bios setup to confirm detects card ok
- reboot, enter f8
- enter network settings
- reboot to os
- install drivers (v 3.5.0.0)
- install hponcfg (v 1.4.1.0)
- flash rib firmware online (v 1.21.0.0)
- reboot to os
- add rib agents via cim control panel applet, restart cim agents
- confirm from within cim console that rib has been detected ok

Re: Test riloe-II boards via laptop crossover cable
Does your nic show a connected status? If not have you tried a straight cable instead of a crossover. Its funny coz on the dongle to connect to a blade server it keeps metioning to use a crossover cable but it never works with one.
Secondly, Do you have any firewall on your laptop?
