After Compiling 3rd party Mibs can't see them in HP SIM

I am using HP SIM latest version and have recently Compiled some extra Mibs ( Microsoft Mibs like wins.mib and intetsrv.mib etc) and I have been succesfull.

when I reboot the server I expected the mibs to be seen in the >Options>Events>SNMP trap settings but they do not appear? Why is this?

regards

There are 2 steps: mcompile and mxmib. Did you complete the mxmib step to register the MIB? You can also use the mxmib command to list the MIBs that are registered.

I didn't do the MX bit, will try it and if it works will award you the points

Re: After Compiling 3rd party Mibs can't see them in HP SIM

Just a quick note, registering the Doubletake and APC mibs gives me information like trap name and type etc, but the microsoft mibs like wins and mssql mibs do not give me anything and therfore are of no use as you can't configure any events for say severity?

After much searching on the net I have found some very obscure references to this. The problem seems to be that the Microsoft MIBS don't have any trap defined. They can only be used for browsing. Which makes them useless. Suggest you look at the event to Trap converter from NComTech as per serval other discussions here. Also don't get ditracted by the MicroSoft EVNTWIN.EXE or command version. They look great but if there is no MIB from Microsoft (or anyone else I've found), then all you'll get in HP SIM (need to configure to show unregistered traps) is a bunch of Unregistered Traps !
