Command View for Tape Libraries SMI-S Provider / MSA/EVA with HPSIM
In short, what does it do, what possibilities do you have?
Other questions:
- Can I install it on the same server as where HPSIM is running, can I install other SMI-S provider too on the same server (like MSA/EVA providers?)
- What does the SMI-S provider monitor? Has someone examples if it shows something extra in HPSIM and what exactly it will report? Will it eg. report possible Tape drive failures?
- In general: what does a SMI-S provider for EVA/MSA monitor? Will it report eg. a failed Controller?
- May the HPSIM server have a HBA onboard connected to the SAN (in case of MSA/EVA)?

Re: Command View for Tape Libraries SMI-S Provider / MSA/EVA with HPSIM
Depends on what you're monitoring.
CommandView EVA is required to manage an EVA disk array.
Integrating this into HPSIM gives nice reporting on disk usage etc. You can then use HPSIM's data collection to record figures for historical analysis.
Not sure what you'd get in other environments.
SMI-S is available for a number of devices but I've not extended our reporting to cover that. For our SAN infrastructure I use HPCC to get info over the whole SAN structure.
