Errors attempting to install SIM

Hi,
I have been having troubles installing the SIM software and was wondering if anybody else has had these issues.
I am installing SIM on a new DL380G3, it has just been SmartSTart buit and is running Windows 2000 SP4. I am also installing the database on a remote SQL 2000 SP3 server.
WHat happens is that the SIM software appears to install, but then it starts showing messages in the install window about requiring TCP/IP, requiring SNMP, and more worroying "that it could not locate Windows Scripting Host" I also get some messages stating that the user name and password are incorrect and some script line errors. The SIM Install then appears to loop through the process and does not stop.
I am installing SIM using an AD Domain user account that has Local Server Admin rights. The Database is being created and populated on the SQL Server ok, so I am not sure what can be wrong. My guess is that there may be an issue with the OpenSSH as I cannot sucsessfully login to it, but I know nothing about this application and how it interacts with AD, if at all.
I have also installed the latest Windows Scripting host patch (5.6 I think) so I do not understand why the install thinks it is not there.
Any suggestions/solutions?

Thanks,
Dean

Re: Errors attempting to install SIM

It will certainly require TCPIP and SNMP installed. If it is flagging these as missing you will need to enabled them.

It seems as though there's some kind of networking issue. But, if SNMP is not enabled on the Server you're trying to install it on you will need to get that on before you try anything else.

Re: Errors attempting to install SIM

Thanks, however I did check all of these things.
TCP/IP is working as well as DNS name resolution.
SNMP is also installed.
There are no error messages in the event logs about any of the services that it complains about, and in-fact there are no error messages there at all.
All looks like it should be working.

Re: Errors attempting to install SIM

Are you doing a straigth forward default installation? Or are you custimizing any of the install paths or other options. What version of SmartStart are you using, you should be using 6.4 or 7.0 if you have it.

This is very strange, you may want to think about reinstalling the TCP/IP stack and then removing SNMP and then reinstalling SNMP. Then after that apply Proliant Support Pack 7.0 again. When uninstalling SIM, make sure you uninstall all the packages including SSH. I think there's 3 or 4 packages in Add/Remove.

Re: Errors attempting to install SIM

Apart from specifying a remote SQL Server, everyting else was a default install.
The Smartstart was v6.1x, however I had applied the Support Pack v7.0 prior to installation.
I have also had no luck with a SmartStart Windows 2003 install.
I did think perhaps AD may have been applying some obscure Group Policy to the server and User, so I attempted an install on a clean server that was not in the AD domain. This has also failed with the same issues.
After discussing this with HP PreSales, we have concluded that there may be an issue with the installation files, and I am waiting on a Known Good copy of the install files.

Re: Errors attempting to install SIM

I have managed to sort this out.
It would appear that the installation does not specify which Collation Name the database requires, and instead relies upon the server default to be the correct one.(although tis not specified)
I ended up installing the database to another remote SQL Server with the default Collation settings and then detached the DB from this server and attached to my original SQL Server. I also had to hack the registry to point to the new SQL Server.
All now works fine.

Dean,

Thanks for the update, I've certainly never seen that one before.
