3.Will this require any kernel parameter modification
4.We donтАЩt have any Windows server in our environment, is it possible to Configure a HPUX server as will Central Mgmt Server (CMS) and manage HPUX RISC/Integrity servers
5.How will Central Mgmt Server (CMS) communicate to HP RC. Will this automatically send alerts to HP RC
6.What is the procedure to setup the communication between will Central Mgmt Server (CMS) and HP RC
7.Is this product comes free with Support Contract or do we need to purchase any license
8.If there is cost, then how much per license
9.Does this require any particular ports to be opened, or will it work with SNMP port itself

Solution
Hi
Replying to this one is worth 100 points :-)
1.Which is the product that needs to be installed for HPUX 11.31 . Is it HP Systems Insight Manager 5.2 ?
Already 2 questions in there :-)
you need to understand HP SIM architecture first which is a client / server architecture. Managed devices are communicating to a Central management Server (AKA CMS)
The CMS can run on an HP UX server.( bits can be downloaded from the hp web site : http://h18013.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/hpsim/dl_hpux.html )
The latest version being 5.3 for info.
On the managed device : wbem providers as well as other packages (System management homepage, SSH)are neeeded. You will find them on the same page.
2.Does HP SIM require Java Out-of-Box (JAVAOOB) product also ?
Yes version :JAVAOOB - Java2 Out-of-box for HP-UX (02.05.00) available on the download page previously quoted.
3.Will this require any kernel parameter modification ?
See installation guide here :
http://docs.hp.com/en/418810-005/ch03s01.html
When installing HP SIM, Java Out-of-Box (JAVAOOB) is required and is automatically selected for installation. For additional information, see http://www.hp.com/products1/unix/java/java2/outofbox/index.html. The kernel parameter values the JAVAOOB adjusts are listed in the following table.

4.We don├в t have any Windows server in our environment, is it possible to Configure a HPUX server as will Central Mgmt Server (CMS) and manage HPUX RISC/Integrity servers ?
Yes see question One. CMS requierements on HP UX :
http://docs.hp.com/en/418810-005/ch02s03.html
5.How will Central Mgmt Server (CMS) communicate to HP RC. Will this automatically send alerts to HP RC ?
Not sure to understand here..HP RC...?if it means PA risc, it will depend on the OS version. Each version provide a different set of providers 9the latest is the greatest usually in terms of functionnalities. However you cannot install the latest on old version of HP UX OS.
7.Is this product comes free with Support Contract or do we need to purchase any license ?
HP SIM requires a registration key that is free of charge.
Regarding Support and services around HP SIM :
Support for HP Systems Insight Manger is available through HP's local Response Centers or through HP Technology Services.
HP Response Center for HP Systems Insight Manager on HP-UX
1-800 HP Invent (1-800-474-6836) for North America, or contact your local HP Response Center
Trainings are also available :
http://h18013.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/hpsim/training.html
8.If there is cost, then how much per license?
no cost for HP SIM itself. Additionnal cost may occur if adding plug ins to HP SIM (eg : VSE see below :
http://h18013.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/hpsim/plugin-apps.html )
9.Does this require any particular ports to be opened, or will it work with SNMP port itself ?
Wbem providers will use different ports than the snmp ones :
have a look at the following doc for more details :
http://h10018.www1.hp.com/wwsolutions/misc/hpsim-helpfiles/HPSIM_53_Security.pdf
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/c-products/servers/management/hpsim/hpsim-53-managing-firewalls.pdf
more generally on HP UX and HP SIM :
on wbem subscriptions :
http://h10018.www1.hp.com/wwsolutions/misc/hpsim-helpfiles/hpsim_5_sshwbemSubscriptions.pdf
Inventory on HP UX :
http://h10018.www1.hp.com/wwsolutions/misc/hpsim-helpfiles/hpsim_hpux_inventory.pdf
Installing HP SIM on HP UX :
http://docs.hp.com/en/418810-005/index.html
here you are !!!
Once you 've gone through all of this, you should be set :-)
hope it helps
