Software Status Polling Takes Too Long

In our HP SIM 5 installation, monitoring about 800 servers from a Proliant DL380 G3 management server, Software Status Polling takes nearly a full 24 hours to complete. This means that the polling basically never ends, and any attempt to run a Software Status Polling task manually against one or two servers gets put in a pending status until (maybe) the next day. I don't remember this happening with previous versions of Insight Manager. Is there a way that this can be sped up?
