System Collections - Virtual Hosts - ??

SIM 5.1 SP1
VMMP 2.1.01

New install of SIM. During the inital install I did not install the VMMP though. Once the install was complete, basic SIM config(Only using SNMP). I added the machines(HP and VM ESX) in my environment via host file discovery.

The ESX servers are being discovered and labelled correctly "Linux - VMware ESX Server" but I realized I didnt have the VMware collection under "System and Event collections". Went back and installed the VMMP so it would auto create the collection but its not listing the VMware servers in the collections.

Ran the Host based discovery again on the VM servers and then identified them but still not playing them in the VM container.

Any ideas what I might be missing or what I messsed up?

For the host servers you'll need to install the ESX version of the PSP. Go to:
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/index.html
Select the OS in the bottom section and then go to the ESX section.

Installation of this also configures SNMP via a rather long winded Q&A process or you can pre-configure a config. file.

You can then log into the SMH, just like any Windows host, and if you use Trust by certificate, install the HPSIM Server cert.

The guests are another story, I enable WBEM globally but leave the credentials blank and then use WBEM for the specific VM Guests to enable data collection.

All of our VM's have the snmp.conf file configured and were pointing to this box when it had 5.0 installed. When I tried to upgrade to 5.1 SP1 it pretty much puked on itself. So I just did a clean install of 5.1 sp1.

All the VM's are being detected and reported(have a notification task on them) on correctly but for some odd reason its not putting them under the Virtual Host collection. They show under the all systems and all servers but not Virtual hosts.

Even on my test box that is 5.1 sp1 it will put a VM in the correct collection by default even though the VM's do not have its community names.

The only diff I can see is in my prod enviroment I installed the VMMP feature after I added the VM hosts.

VMM is usually installed by default as part of an HPSIM install.
It is a licensed product and you'll need to license and register (or is that the other way round?) the VM Hosts for use with VMM.
You can try re-registering.

To do that HPSIM needs to have correctly identified them, and so SNMP needs to be correct for that.
If you search through the forum you'll find some examples of what the snmpd.conf file should look like.
