In your opinion, which microprocessor will emerge as the most popular microprocessors in the future? can someone tell me how to find out of this question? thank you.

It all depends on what you mean by "future". Any of the current microprocessors probably won't exist 5 years from now (except in "old" machines), and the companies making them may not exist 10 years from now. If you are worried about what direction to go, you really need to analyze your application and determine which system is best for you.

I've been working with computers for 35 years and have seen so many changes that I've learned to expect everything to change tomorrow.

In the 25 years I have been working with microprocessor systems, Intel has been the common thread. They have succeeded in being the main processor for pretty much all small computer systems. They now are even in the MAC platform. They are also in the unix systems as well, with the itanium chip replacing the PA-Risc chip.

While Intel clones such as AMD will be successful, Intel probably will remain at the forefront of chip design. It is very expensive to develop new processors from scratch, and Intel is one of the few companies with both the fianancial and human resources to be a leader in the area.

I accept from what DCE has mentioned however looking at the future AMD might vendor in a big way into the server market. I like this because Intel will fight to be there at the top all the time which would always the consumers the best products at a competitive price.

I think that AMD opteron will have more and more market, while Itanium sales will remain. In fact, all depends of the vendor publicity and sales people ;).

The processor architecture depends of the type of application that you want to run (database, application server, scientific, etc), and also, the growing scheme (vertical-horizontal/grid-supercomputers) and the money assigned to the IT infraestructure.
