HPE Servers: the 10-second lowdown

It’s been a big year for HPE servers as we’ve won multiple awards from third parties who have thoroughly evaluated our products. We were again named a leader in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Modular Servers. And, once again, HPE ProLiant DL360 and DL380 Gen9 servers were named the best-selling server platforms in the world, according to IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Server Tracker for Q2. We’ve pulled together some of the key facts about our family of server products in the at-a-glance guide below.

As much as we appreciate the recognition, what we’re most proud of is what our technology can do, and how our customers are using it to drive business success.

Pedal-to-the-metal Cloud

Take Bigstep, for example, an infrastructure-as-a-service provider for enterprise big data. The company’s Full Metal Cloud solution eliminates the virtualization layer typically used in cloud services, enabling applications like Hadoop, NoSQL, and analytics engines to run up to 500% faster. “We realized that a hypervisor can waste 20-80% of a server’s bare metal power, depending on the workload, so we removed it …” explained Ioana Hreninciuc, Bigstep’s commercial director.

The Full Metal Cloud offering harnesses Hewlett Packard Enterprise ProLiant DL360 Gen9 servers and HPE Apollo 4200 Gen9 servers. (Read how HPE helped Bigstep build the highest performance cloud in the world for big data initiatives.) “Our customers are enterprise customers, so the type and brand of servers we offer really matters,” said product manager Alex Bordei. “That’s why we chose HPE Gen9 servers as the technology foundation for our Full Metal Cloud.”

70% performance hike was just the beginning

Since introducing the new servers, Bigstep has seen an impressive 70 percent performance increase, as well as a 35% improvement in net energy efficiency, Bordei reports. “Power represents as much as 40% of the cost, and since Gen9 servers are more efficient in terms of power consumption, we can significantly lower cost and translate that savings into price/performance gains of up to 80% for our customers.”

Bigstep isn’t the only company innovating in the enterprise space with HPE servers. Eight of the top ten companies in sectors like banking, entertainment, and pharmaceuticals use HPE servers.
