HP NAS 2000S with WSS2003: security updates are specific ?

Hi all,

we have a HP NAS 2000s (DL380G3 + extension rack)purchased end of 2003.
HP says Windows Update is not a good way on this kind of system with WSS2003 OS, because of specific hardware. They so delivered, sometime, a CD with release updates, but:
Is it really for all updates I can't use Windows Update or can I do at least hot security updates on it (and so no update for hardware, of course) ?

Morover did HP has a planning of deliverance regarding these CD's ?

I can't find this kind of informations on HP site and.....windows 2003 WSS site (security, Bill, security).

Hope it was clear :-)

thanks for help
Eric

Hi Eric,

You can get the latest Service Release DVD from the web.
http://software.hp.com
- Click on "Storage and NAS"

DO NOT USE WINDOWS UPDATE TO INSTALL 2003 SP1.

Following Service Release 5.5 (includes SP1) it is now acceptable to use Windows Update for Security patches. Please note, Microsoft HotFixes are not necessarily available through Windows Update so keeping up to date with the Service Releases is a good idea.

Re: HP NAS 2000S with WSS2003: security updates are specific ?

Hi Jon,

thanks for your respons, it is helping me especially about these links:

ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/products/storageworks/nas/5983-0484EN.pdf
and:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserversystem/wss2003/techinfo/plandeploy/patchmgmt.mspx

I just have some "problems" to understand why 2003 SP1 can't be installed on NAS ? not compliant with SR delivered by HP or... ?Apparently the MS document say it's possible to do it. HP don't say anything in his doc about SP1. Strange.

Thanks again

Eric.
