Proliant DL380 G4 Storage Server W2k3 upgrade to SP1
Hi,
I am looking to upgrade one of our NAS boxes (DL380 G4 Storage Server) which is currently Windows 2003 to Windows 2003 with SP1. Now I know from when we originally installed the box that you cannot just put the standard SP1 on, as it will just Blue-screen, and reading through the help I noticed this one :
http://h20293.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=366133-006
Will this always be the case that we need a CD to put on hotfixes, or can we start to download patches from the MS site and install them on the server?
Also I cant seem to use the MS Base Analyzer tool to find out which patches/service packs are needed to be installed. Is there any other tools or updates to MSBA that I can use to get these displayed?
Also I noticed this article : http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=PSD_CB0214W
Does this refer to the FQDN, or just the NetBIOS name of the server such as
WPD01
or
WPD01.eu.microsoft.com
Now if it refers to the FQDN do I have to remove the server from the domain to apply the pack with TelNet being inadvertantly removed?

Call HP and get the HP NAS Updater.
You can still apply patches/hotfixes. Hoepfully HP and Microsoft will have collaberated for SP2?
The NAS has a few gotchyas that I wish I'd known about before we'd invested in them.

Re: Proliant DL380 G4 Storage Server W2k3 upgrade to SP1
You can get a free Service Release DVD at http://software.hp.com click on "Storage and NAS"
All QR and SR DVDs are available.
HOTFIXES are patches that Microsoft typically releases to only those users who are affected by a defect. They are minimally tested and eventually get rolled into the next Service Pack for the OS. These will almost always require you to either get them from MSFT or HP.
Security Patches are released to the general audience. These are available from Windows Update. HP's support statement can be found here: http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/suspp/index.html
Hope this helps
