Hello, my problem is, two unit 400Gb present in my " " don't use compression hardware and use only 195 gb. I use Symantec Backup Exec software. Thanks

If your media is 200/400GB this means it has 200GB native capacity. 400GB is marketing only, not realistic.

If your data is not compressible, you can only store 200GB.


Consider to use LTT to test data compression.

An Ultrium 448 1/8 G2 Autoloader has a native capacity of 200GB per tape cartridge.

If the data that is backed up to the Ultrium 448 tape drive is compressible, then you are able to put more data on the tape cartridge. Data files like *.jpg, *.zip, *.mpg, and *.rar may not be further compressible. Files that are compressible are for example, large SQL and Exchange database files.

Also, the data has to be provided to the tape drive fast enough keep the tape drive buffer full, so that hardware compression can take effect. You can test the Ultrium 448 tape drive by using LTT software. LTT software has the ability create 2:1 compressible data set for your tape drive.
