Attach two servers to one Storageworks 1/8 980 tape autoloader

Can I attach two servers to one Storageworks 1/8 980 tape autoloader?
There are two servers rx1620. One is for production and another for backup. It is possible to read from one server and to write and another one?

IMHO this is not possible - this SCSI device is for 1 host only. How would you prevent access conflicts otherwise?
