After having a new rx2800i4 and external LTO-6 tape drive installed, I went to use the tape drive and found that the OS cannot see the tape drive,, and there is not tape device showing up in any ioscan output. Does anyone know how to make the tape drive visible/usable? I tried insf and ioscan but had no output from either and still could not find any evidence of a tape drive being installed.

Re: Can't see LTO-6 Tape Drive after hardware installed
You probably not have the tape driver installed. Any UNKNOWN device in ioscan?
What HBA is used to connect the drive?
Please share an
ioscan -fn
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Can't see LTO-6 Tape Drive after hardware installed
I think we'll need a little bit more information. How is the Tape Drive attached? Can HPUX see the host bus adapter it is connected to? I think the first step would be to identify the host bus adapter it is connected to, and check the support matrix to verify you have the correct drivers installed for the host bus adapter. Once you have the adapter recognized, ioscan should show the tape device if it is connected properly.
The support matrix can be found here:

Re: Can't see LTO-6 Tape Drive after hardware installed
Try
kcmodule -v stape
if not loaded or static, run
kcmodule stape=static
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

SolutionThank you everyone for your suggestions. The stape driver status was 'static' in SMH. No tape device ever showed up in any ioscan output. We moved the cable to another port on the tape drive and it then showed up in 'ioscan -fnC tape' output. So it appears that the first port on the tape drive is bad and I will open a hardware ticket for it. I would not have known how to identify what HBA it was connected to without instructions. I couldn't find much on troubleshooting hardware in any of the admin guides.
