compaq 15/30 gb dlt - interface and cable

I have a COMPAQ 15/30 gb dlt drive. I am missing the scsi cable and interface card. I need to restore some backups from 2003 and all I have is the drive. Can someone give me details on the correct cable and card I need to purchase.

My plan is to connect this to a HP Proliant DL 380 G5 server that has a scsi interface.

I having trouble finding documentation on-line on this drive.

Re: compaq 15/30 gb dlt - interface and cable

Hi Klove,

Firstly, let me just say that the COMPAQ 15/30 GB DLT Tape drive is very old, no longer supported by HP and has not been tested with the HP ProLiant DL380 G5, so there is no support or guarantee that it will work.

That said, HP is always trying to help our customers find a solution so my recommendation to you is to use:

1. HP SC11Xe Ultra320 SCSI PCIe HBA (412911-B21), which has been tested and is supported with the HP ProLiant DL380 G5. I recommend this HBA because it is current and also supports the entire line of current HP SCSI tape drives should you choose to use it for another one of our products afterwards.

2. Purchase a 68-pin VHDCI to 50-pin HD (Male-to-Male) SCSI cable. Due to the age of 50-pin SCSI connectors and cables HP no longer sells these cables so you will need to buy one outside of HP. You can find them easily on Amazon if you search for "68-pin to 50-pin SCSI Cable".

Once again let me just say that the Compaq 15/30 GB DLT tape drive is no longer supported and there is no guarantee it will work with the ProLiant DL380 G5. I have also not been able to find any drivers on www.hp.com/go/support.

Thanks,
Russell
