Cross-grading LTO-4 tape drive firmware from HP ESL to Sun SL500

Following on from thread 1337215 ("Firmware of HP LTO-4 Drives -- Are they All Sourced from HP?" is it possible to cross-grade the firmware in an HP AH682A LTO-4 tape drive (for an HP EML library) to the Oracle/Sun firmware version so that the drive will work in an Oracle/Sun SL500 library?

Richard Bickers in his thread 1337215 response seemed to suggest that the LTT (HP Library & Tape Tools) may prevent this, but can it be achieved a different way (i.e. outside of LTT)?

I also realize that the AH682A drive has the extra Management interface over the equivalent Oracle/Sun LTO4тИТHP4FCтИТSL500Z drive, but this can be de-activated for the Sun SL500 environment, so the reverse situation of cross-grading a SUN SL500 drive for use in an HP EML library is likely to be un-implementable.

Tape drives have a "personality" that prevents loading a firmware for a different model or vendor. The drive itself will not accept "foreign" firmware.

Hope this helps!
