DAT 72 Tape Problem

I have eight DAT 72's drives. All of them will read and write with DDS3 and DAT 40 tapes with no problems. But the second I use a DAT 72 tape the drives fails or ask for a cleaning tape. I'm using LTT 4.12 to test the drives and the drives are a the lastest FW V601. My question would be is their a setting for the drive to read DDS 3, 4 and not DAT 72 tapes?
