DAT 72 TAPES WITH DAT 40...

I have an old HP DAT 72 SCSI INTERNAL not working.
Now i'm buying an HP DAT 40 USB EXTERNAL.

However i have several NEW dat 72 tapes and 5 tapes for cleaning DAT 72:

a) can i RECORD into new dat 72 tapes with an HP DAT 40 USB ?
b) can i READ dat 72 tapes where i make backup with HP DAT 72 SCSI ?
c) can i use the clear tapes dat 72 with HP DAT 40 USB ?
Excuse me for my english.

Re: DAT 72 TAPES WITH DAT 40...

I hope it's not too late for this to be useful to you.

Tape drives have backward compatibility, not forward compatibility.

This means that DAT72 can write to and read from DAT40 tapes.

A DAT40 drive can NOT use a DAT72 tape in any way.
