Data Protector Express 4.0 SP1 - ejects tape before verify is complete

A rather strange problem that has only started to happen since an upgrade to 4.0 from 3.5.

When I execute a job which does a full backup, followed by a full verify, the system completes the backup successfully, however it proceeds to eject the tape before the verify is performed and thus the job hangs/fails with "no devices specified or all devices are now offline"

The software is being used on a HP Bladesystem C3000 enclosure with BL460C's on RHEL 5.1.

Any ideas?

Hi Ian,

How many tapes was used to get a full back up?
When tape is ejected, did you get any alert/warning message?

Only 1 tape is used, not much on the servers as of yet!

There isn't any error/alert message apart from the one stating there's no media when it comes to do the verify pass.

I've even set the option "force to append" just to make sure it wasn't a capacity issue.

It's the Ultrium blade tape drive (448C if I recall)

Are you using DPE 4.0 SP1?? or just 4.0?

You can try to use the SP1 since 4.0 wasn't really stable.

Well I thought I was using 4.0SP1 but that's the license key I had not the one installed.

I proceeded to install 4.0SP1, upgrading all the relevant machines. However, now I have an issue with the license not being recognized and the storage domain being put into evaluation mode. This never happened on 4.0 and the license key states it's permanent and active.

I upgraded from DPE SSE to DPE, however the version I received with the tape blade was 3.5SP2 and the upgrade I purchased was for 4.0SP1, would this be the problem by any chance?

DPE 3.5 license key won't work on DPE 4.0.

But did you upgrade DPE 3.5 SSE to DPE 3.5 (Full) or to DPE 4.0?

You bought the upgrade license or base license for DPE 4.0?

You may need to check with your local support.

The upgrade I purchased was for SSE to 4.0SP1 from what the license states:

This would enable me to upgrade 3.5 SSE to 4.0 SP1 I would have thought?

After much messing around, uninstalling, reinstalling I've finally got it working!

Turns out SP1 was exactly what was needed to fix this issue.

I have this exact same problem, with version 3.5 SP2, it has always done it, ever since i installed the software. Backup works ok, but verify stage fails, and asks me to insert a new tape! "force to append" is selected. and the tape is not gettign filled.
