Data Protector Express - aborting job after set time

We've recently switched to HP drives after excellent experiences in terms of quality versus other brands, and we've deployed Data Protector Express at a few sites and some of the administrators are having a difficult time finding the options they're used to in other packages.

Evaluating Data Protector Express 3.50 SP2, I've scoured every nook and cranny of the software, but we can't find an area to force the software to abort a job after it's expired. That is to say, if we've set up a 5-day backup routine, and there's a holiday on a Monday, we need it to abort the job if no tape has been inserted within 5 or so hours, so it won't attempt a backup the next morning when the client inserts a new tape.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Unfortunately that very desireable feature is not available.

Well, that's really unfortunate. Without that ability, the software is pretty much useless in a professional environment. Guess it's back to rsm and ntbackup... thanks for the response, I'd still be scouring the horrible UI if you didn't get back to me so quickly.

Does anybody know if version 4 is able to abort job after timeout ?
I am desperately looking for this indispensable feature.

I have been restarting the data protector service by scheduled tasks..

not ideal but it does cancel the job
