Data Protector Express - How to reduce database size?

We've been using the HP Data Protector Express software with an Ultrium 920 LTO tape drive.

The DPE database folder (C:\Program files\HP\data protector express\database) has grown to over 3Gb in size.

Most of this is in two files

"object data - 000.dat" = 1.96Gb
"instance data - 000.dat" = 1.28Gb

How do I decrease the size of these files?

Thanks in advance!

Hi CWeed,

The only real way of reducing the size, is by offloading the database, and reading it back in.

The man page on omnidbutil gives some further information on how.You can find the manuals here:

omnidbutil -writedb -mmdb -cdb -no_detail

omnidbutil -readdb -mmdb -cdb -no_detail

Re: Data Protector Express - How to reduce database size?

Hi Kranti,

I've checked the HP Manuals site and do not find an administrators guide (or any doco) on Data Protector Express. Will the OmniDBUtil details in the Data Protector Admin guide be the same?

Also, can you advise why the database has grown so large? We've been using DPE for about 8 months and do 1 full backup per day.

Thanks again...

Re: Data Protector Express - How to reduce database size?

HP Data Protector Express software is a very different product to HP Data Protector.

This is the area for asking questions about HP Data Protector.

Try asking your DP Express (DPX) question elsewhere.
