DLT 40/80 drive failed
i've a compaq dlt 40/80. when i start the drive the rear motor roll the tape clock wise but fail to roll it back anti-clockwise.
do anyone know what is the problem ? i have changed the board, the seems the problem does not solved.

Sounds like you have a tacho problem.
This is on the rear right hand side that sends the signals to the logics to tell how fast the tape is running.

I'm not shure to understand your problem, do you mean that the tape is despooled and all loaded in the internal wheel?
If this is the case, I would suggest to chech for dust inside the unit, in fact there is some optical sensors on the tape path that are used to check the BOT and EOT (Begining and End Of Tape). if the sensor cannot detect the BOT or EOT, the motor will despool all the tape and will not put it back in the cartridge
