DPX&Compression problem

i use MSL2024  LTO4     1:2  800GB  1.6TB

make a full backup which have about 1.2GB

i dont want DPX uses more than 1  LTO4 Tape

i want it "One Full Backup,One Tape"

HOW CAN I set??

800GB is the "native" or "real" capacity of the tape.   If your data is compressible, the tape drive will automatically compress it and you can sometimes get as much as 1.6 TB on the tape.  

The amount of compression is not anything you can change -- it is dependent on the type of data you have.

Much of the data we work with now has already been compressed, and will compress poorly if at all.  Data such as MPEG, JPEG, .PPT, encrypted files, zipped files.... none of that will get any significant compression on tape.

So -- I don't think you can do better with how much data you're putting on a single tape.

You can run one full backup a week, and differential backups the rest of the week.  This will mean that you will have a two-tape backup only one day a week.

Or, split your backup into two pieces, with one partition getting a full backup on one day and the other partition getting a full backup some other day.

You can't argue with physics... or math.

Your choices are:

1) Higher capacity tape drive

2) Less data on tape

3) Two tapes

Perhaps you can clean up the server and exclude enough data from the backup (temporary files, data that's easy to recreate, etc.) to fit things on one tape.
