driver HP StorageWorks 1/8 G2 (AH165A) autoloader problem

Hi all,

I have a HP StorageWorks 1/8 G2 (AH165A) autoloader connected to a Proliant DL380 G2 running Windows 2003 and Backup Exec 11d.

Neither the current HP driver nor the Symantec driver will register the device as an autoloader, only a single tape drive. I loaded the HP driver and Tape Tools to check firmware -- Tape tools shows the drive with a red X and the message "LT&T could not identify the correct NT miniport driver to use for access to this device"

LT&T shows the product ID as Ah165a, a standard ULTRIUM920 drive, and will not communicate with it.

Has anyone successfully installed this autoloader before?

thanks,

Hi,
If you are not able to see the medium changer under device manager then you should download the driver from here

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3303439&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=1809913&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=1005

This is a MSL2024's page, but it will work for your G2 autoloader.

Re: driver HP StorageWorks 1/8 G2 (AH165A) autoloader problem

The 1/8 G2 autoloader is not supported by any of the Smart Array Controllers at this time and the controller will not even report it to the OS.

You have to use a standard SCSI controller such as the AH627A dual port PCI-e controller, 412911-B21 single port PCI-e controller, 374654-B21 single port PCI-X controller, or the 268351-B21 dual port PCI-X controller.

Re: driver HP StorageWorks 1/8 G2 (AH165A) autoloader problem

I've been told I will have problems using a AH627A 2CH Scsi Adapter if I am connecting just one MSL2024 to a HP Proliant DL380 G5 Storage Server. Is a 412911-B21 - HP 1CH SCSI U320 PCI-E Adapter sufficient to connect the MSL2024 to the DL380?

Yes the single channel adapter is fine.

I don't know who told you that there would be problems with using the dual channel SCSI adapter with a single drive MSL2024 - that isn't true. You will be adding a second SCSI channel that you may not need but it won't hurt anything. That adapter would be fine as well.
