ESL714E LT04 labels return 7 characters.
We are running OpenVMS 8.3. We just had HP install the above mentioned tape library. VMS has an OS limitation of 6 characters for a magnetic tape label. The labels provided for LT04 tape drives have a seventh character indicating the type of drive. The same is true for SDLT. However, most, if not all, tape management products for VMS use the barcode label to create the electronic label. When the library returns 7 characters, VMS spits up the init command. How do I get this library to ignore the 7th label character. I believe this is a hardware setting on the library, but HP seems to want to argue this point

Yes this is a hardware setting on the library. I think it is in the front panel and you can change it yourself. If you don't find it post back and I'll go check and see exactly how it is done.

Re: ESL714E LT04 labels return 7 characters.
Thanks. HP has finally located the information necessary, and have agreed to make the change. We are located 300 miles from the equipment, and this has to be implemented manually.
