Event ID 11 from SA6402 and Ultrium 460

I moved an Ultrium 460 tape drive to an ML370 G4 server with Smart Array 6402 as it's RAID/SCSI controller. When I run a backup job or use HP StorageWorks Library and Tape Tools to test the drive, I get the message below from event viewer (system log).

Event Type: Error
Event Source: cpqcissm
Event Category: None
Event ID: 11
Date: 1/25/2011
Time: 3:11:36 PM
User: N/A
Computer:
Description:
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Scsi\cpqcissm1.

I've already updated the firmware and drivers of Ultrium 460 and SA6402 but I'm still getting the same error message.

My Ultrium 460 tape drive may not be compatible with SA6402. I will try to move the tape drive to 3U rack mount enclosure and see what will happen. If you guys have any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks.

Check the Checking SCSI/HBA/Driver configuration of the drive from the below trouble shooting document.

Also make sure you update the driver from the HP website

Thanks for the link, Sudhakar. That is very useful. I think I've already found the problem. My RAID/SCSI controller (SA6402) does not support the protocol used by Ultrium 460 (Wide Ultra-3 SCSI). I'll try looking for a SCSI controller that will work with ML360 G4 and Ultrium 460.

Yes, I updated the firmware and drivers of Ultrium 460 and Smart Array 6402 but the same error appears. Also, moving the tape drive to a rack-mount enclosure does not make a difference.

I think we discussed this already in

Hope this helps!

Hi, Torsen. Yes, this is the same issue. However, the other thread was about the problem when booting up the server while in POST. This problem is about errors from event viewer, system log.
