fitting 2x ultrium tape drives to a ML570 server
I have a ML570 server currently running one ultrium2 tape drive from the on board scsi.
Is it possible for me to fit a second tape drive and if so what is the best way to go about it.
Unfortunately i cant bring the server down at the moment to have a look inside and see if there are any spare on board scsi slots available but from reading the specs this does not seem likely.
I would assume i am going to have to get a scsi card and run from that?
Any pointers would be a great help.
Cheers

Re: fitting 2x ultrium tape drives to a ML570 server
Integrated Dual Channel Ultra SCSI-3 (Ultra SCSI - 4 ready)
I suppose one goes to your hard drives and one to the tape drive?

Does not have the ML570 G2 listed anymore :/
But here you can see which parts are compatible with the ML570 G2:

Re: fitting 2x ultrium tape drives to a ML570 server
As soon as i get the chance i will bring the server down so i can check what is being used. Unfortunately this is our data server and it is working 24/6 the only day its free to be worked on is sunday...
Thanks for the links.
I can do some ground work so i have a clearer picture when i look in the server on sunday.

Re: fitting 2x ultrium tape drives to a ML570 server
be sure to have enough power
be sure to have enough cooling
these two things are critical
m
ay be better to have an external unit if you want to manage two LTO drives

But then you should be able to tell how many SCSI ports you have without opening the server.
Just look at the back of it :)
