HP Colorado 8GBe Firmware Upgrade Failing
I have an external HP Colorado 8GBe tape drive connected via parallel port on an NT4 Server SP6 running Backup Exec 7.3. I am trying to upgrade the firmware to the 2.08 version. I have it at 2.02 now.
When I run the HPQ_FFU.exe file to start the upgrade I get a "No QIC tape drives needing the upgrade found"
When I go to control panel and click on TAPE DEVICES I see "Hewlett Packard Colorado QIC157" (as well as the internal Seagate STT8000A I have on this server)
Backup Exec 7.3 sees both of these drives including the HP.
Also if I run NTBACKUP the program tells me no devices can be used either. It states tape device detected, driver started, however tape device not responding.
What can I do to troubleshoot this? Since this is an older device I do not have the original material (CD/Manual, etc) here.
I have been to:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNum=C4388A&prodName=hp+colorado+8GB+external+travan+drive&locale=en_US&taskId=8418&taskName=download+drivers+%26+software&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=63937&prodSeriesName=hp+colorado+8GB+travan+drives
I downloaded the driver "hpnt400.exe" and did what the readme stated except for step 3 that states:
"Please note that you must still follow the steps in the 5GBe and 8GBe Install Guide to install the HPQIC157 device driver through the Control Panel."
I don't have the install guide, I may have missed it online but with an older device like this I don't believe I will find it online. Is there anything special that needs to be done via control panel out of the ordinary?
One more thing -- when running the TapeDiag program I grabbed from the same download page it also states there are no drives available.
Would look forward to your assistance.
Thanks!!

Re: HP Colorado 8GBe Firmware Upgrade Failing
George-
As I recall, a prerequisite of the tape diagnostic software (tapediag.exe) is that the tape drive software (Colorado Backup II) be installed first. Perhaps this is just so that the proper device drivers have been installed.
The CBII software is only designed for NT Workstation; not Server.
This may mean that the proper device drivers do not exist for Server OS.

If it works, don't fix it!

Re: HP Colorado 8GBe Firmware Upgrade Failing
Hi Tim,
You may have confused me a bit. According to this URL ( http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNum=C4388A&prodName=hp+colorado+8GB+external+travan+drive&locale=en_US&taskId=8418&taskName=download+drivers+&+software&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=63937&prodSeriesName=hp+colorado+8GB+travan+drives ) There are drivers for this OS (NT4).
Did you mean no drivers for using Tape Diag? I'm wondering why they would have it under the NT4 category as available?
