HP StorageWorks Dat 40 backup error

My company has different backup sites. A couple of them keep getting erros every night when it is supposed to be backing up. It will work for a couple of hours, but then it will eject the tape and say to insert overwritable media. The tapes are not getting full and ejecting. Would the tapes or drive be going bad? Is there any other possible cause for this? They also used to work for a while and nothing has changed to make this happen. No hardware or software changes. No network changes. Please help!

Test your drives with LTT

perform a DDS assesment test

Re: HP StorageWorks Dat 40 backup error

On the one tape drive, I can't do that assessment because it says there is no tape in the drive and I had someone put one in a couple minutes before I tried. On my other tape drive at another location, everything tested fine and passed, and I put a new tape in, but last night, it didn't start to backup at all. Kept saying to insert overwritable media. Drive going bad, maybe?

Re: HP StorageWorks Dat 40 backup error

We use Symantec Backup Exec. I am just a specialist. I am not in charge of the network. These drives and all of this software used to work together just fine. It just seems like something went wrong with something. I'm trying to figure out anything right now.
