LTO3 tape drive writing only 250gb in one media

Hi,
I'm a new LTO3 tape drive with 800GB HP catridge. But i'm able to write only 250gb data to this media. I tried with LTT tool. Its showing the data compression test is passed with 2:1 compression. Its asking for next media after 250GB.

Any idea about this.

Hi,

What sort of data are you backing up ? If it's already compressed files, then you won't be able to get near 800GB, as the files won't be able to compress any more.

That said, you should be able to get at least 400GB on the tape....

Maybe you need to set some options in your backup software...

I'm writing only normal files and database files. Not writing any compressed files. I'm using hp-ux fbackup(through SAM)for backup.

Any suggestions which i need to try with fbackup. I already tried this tape drive with another server also. But same thing is happening.

Have you run an LTO drive assessment test with L&TT? Post the result here o send it to HP support so they can see if the Ultrium drive is having too many errors, or capacity lose.

Consider to take a support ticket and post (most of the times there are 2 files stored for one ticket).

Are you using a small blocksize? That could do it.

I'm using block size as 0. Is it ok? How to change this in hp-ux?
