Hi we have a SAN connected MSL4048 tape drive (seen as a G3 in Windows 2003). It just sits and continually loads tapes, scans them, then loads the next tape and scans it, over and over again. An identical unit connected the same doesnt do this. Tried it on Auto, sequential,Random. Cant reboot it either as it is constantly scanning and changing tapes.
Any ideas?
Firmware is latest on both drives
Thanks

SolutionThis is probably due to one or more Windows servers in the SAN
you should stop the RSM service, this service scan the scsi id and if it found a tape or a library it try to identify all teh media present there.
the main cause if you do not have zoning in your SAN, the second, you should stop the RSM service in all Window$ sercers present on your SAN

Re: MSL G3 (4048) Tape drive continually scans itself
Thanks Marino. Exactly right. We traced one server that still had th RSM service running and when we stopped it the problem went away
Thanks
