MSL4048 G3 cleaning configuration

Hi All

I just installed a new MSL4048 G3 SCSI library.
In my old MSL6000 library, I could reserve 2 slots for cleaning tapes, but I can't find this option with the new library.
How should I go about to configure cleaning?

I am using Veritas NetBackup for my system. Should I configure NetBackup to be responsible for cleaning instead? If so, any best practice for this configuration?

Should I put bar codes on the cleaning tapes as well or should I leave them blank?

Thanks a lot for all the help.

Regards,
Thomas

Hi Thomas just use cleaning Barcodes that should do the trick.

Re: MSL4048 G3 cleaning configuration

Hi Pablo

Thanks for the feedback.

I have placed barcodes on my cleaning cartridges, but is that enough for the system to automatically do cleaning once needed?

Or do I have to do any further configuration?

Thanks.

Re: MSL4048 G3 cleaning configuration

Thomas I just talk about this in the chat. You can configure the Backup software to do it automatically as well as the Library Never both but its NOT RECOMENDED because if for any reason you have cabling issues and the drive has parity errors it will ask for claning many times and it will damage the Tape Drive so its better to clean the drive only when the cleaning LED is on or the backup software ask you to do it.

Re: MSL4048 G3 cleaning configuration

Thanks a lot Pablo

I guess I might consider configuring cleaning in my backup software or do it completely manually.
