I've taken a quick look at some information on the Nagios tool you mention. It looks like it also supports SNMP which would be the typical way for monitoring a library.

I can provide you some help on getting SNMP management set up.

The first step is that you probably need to get a copy of the HP Netcitizen or SEMI MIB (same MIB, different names). Lots of sources for that, my favorite is that it is installed with every copy of HP System's Insight Manager. It's also available a number of places on the web and under the manuals section for most HP tape libraries (but for some reason not the MSL).
