Native capacity of LTO Ultrium-2 tapes

Hi,

From what I understand the native capacity of Ultrium-2 tapes are 200GB. I am trying to back up a couple of servers but I get a mount request and when I look how much data that have been backed up it says ~149GB. It almost sounds like it is an Ultrium-1 tape but I asked the user (the server is at another location) to look at the tape and it says "C7972A 400GB LTO ULTRIUM 2".

This doesn't happen on all backups but maybe half of them.

I have verified that there aren't any protected objects on the tape when the backup starts.

Have anyone seen this behavior before and what did you to too solve it?

Thanks!

See

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultrium#Generations

for native capacity.

Each vendor is using a unique color for each tape generation:

Simply compare this!

Hope this helps!

Re: Native capacity of LTO Ultrium-2 tapes

Hi,
The native capacity of a LTO 2 Tape is 200 GB. The compressed capacity of this cartridge is 400 GB consideering 2:1 compression.
The capacity also varies on the data being supplied to the drive and whether hardware compression is turned on.

Re: Native capacity of LTO Ultrium-2 tapes

I had a look this morning and there was a mount request. Data protector reports that the device have backed up 176.6GB and the users tells me that it is an LTO Ultrium-2 tape. I'm puzzled!
