No ethernet connection MSL5000

We have a MSL5000 tape library, but are unable to access the Remote Interface.
The unit has been properly configured with the correct IP address, subnetmask and gateway. When a laptop is directly connected to the unit via ethernet cable (also tested with crosslink cable), there is no answer when the IP address is pinged.
What can we do to test the connection or resolve the issue?

you can use standard LAN troubleshooting:

how are the led on the LAN port? do you have connectivity? do you have traffic?
you may have a firewall on your laptop or you may have a gateway or proxy configured, so you cannot connect
