NSR's FC port hanging

We are setting up a new system with MSL 6060 having four drives, one library controller card and two NSRs. The cabling is done as per attached picture. OS is Windows 2003 Enterprise Server.

Whenever we start the library NSR1's FC port remains off. The NSR2 is OK and two drives show up in the OS. When we reset the NSR1, the FC port start working, and all four drives show up in the OS. Also, after a few hours, NSR1's FC port goes offline. We have to reset it again.

I have tried changing the NSR1, but the problem remains the same. The strange thing is that the NSR2 keeps on working fine.

Is there something I am missing? I will attach the report from NSR1 in the below reply.

Please find the attached report from NSR1.

Re: NSR's FC port hanging

You have an address conflict as both NSRs use the same initiator address. Remove NSR2 from the library controller card and put a terminator on the connector.

Re: NSR's FC port hanging

Hi,

For best performance, you should also recable NSR1 - there should only be one tape drive on each SCSI bus.

See this advisory:

Hope this helps,

Re: NSR's FC port hanging

Thanks all for the replies.

I have updated the SCSI cable configuration, but am having the following issues:

1. There seem to be still SCSI initiator ID conflict,
2. I can only see two drives on the host machine, whereas I want to see all four devices.

Please see the attached file for reference. Kindly advise what changes I should make so that the NSR does not hang and I see all four devices on the host. Thanks.

Re: NSR's FC port hanging

Are you confused by the fact that every "Primary Initiator ID" is 7?

Don't worry. As those are different SCSI busses it is not a problem.

Re: NSR's FC port hanging

Did you change the cables while power was off?

If not, power cycle now.

You need to adjust the mapping of *both* NSR!

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: NSR's FC port hanging

Hi Guyz,

Thanks for the update.

Yes Uwe, I was confused exactly because of that reason. Thanks for clarifying.

I was forgetting to refresh the NSR mapping on both the NSRs as pointed by Torsten. After that, all four drives are being shown on the host machine.

Thanks all of you guys once again for your time :)
