After making that change and placing the cartidge in tape drive on the next the problem of error 1040 in this certain case(certain cartridge) started to apear. Now it is usless and I don`t know what to do.
Operating system: Windows Serwer 2003 Standard Edition
Tape drive software: Data Protector Express v. 3.50
data cartridge: HP DAT 72

I would appreciate any help.
Best Regards

Re: StorageWorks DAT 72 USB 1040 error
If you used the cartridge the catalog thinks it need to be maintained for the prior rotation scheme and will not overwrite it until it is expired.
You need to do two things to be able to overwrite it.
1. Insert the tape into the tape drive.
2. Go to the "Devices" page, find the tape drive and see what it is currently labeled.
3. Go the "Jobs and Media" page and look through the forder tree until you find that tape and delete it. This will remove the tape from the catalog.
4. Finally, use the Media Wizard to create a job to erase the tape.
The tape should now be usable again.
You might also be interested in a new tape rotation called "Daily Append" that is available in Ver 3.5 SP2 now available for download.
This creates a full backup on a selected day of the week (usually Friday night) and then appends daily incremental backups to the same tape for the remaining days of the week. In a single server installation like yours that usually gives you a week's worth of backup on a single tape.
