Storageworks DAT72

Hi,
i am trying to install a DAT72 drive in a W23k server. I have installed an Adaptec 29160 controller which is recognized by the system. I have the latest driver for this controller. My system does not see the drive. I have gone through and changed scsi settings but no help. When I power on system the tape drive is not seen when I scan the scsi bus. When I run the the tape tools and scan it shows up as a RAID/DUMMYDevice in the device list. Is this an indication the controller is bad? I do not have any other tape drives or controller to swap out.
