SureStore 6000 C1533A and Windows XP
Using: Adaptec AHA-2940UW Bios v2.20, Windows XP SP2 and Surestore 6000 (C1533A) firmware 9608, driver HP 1.5.0.1. Microsoft Device Manager shows devices ok. HP Library Tools tests tape drive ok. Trying to backup gives "No Free Media..." pop up. Event viewer says "...failed to write free media label on the media...because the media is write-protected", (the tape is not write-protected.)
Thanks in advance.

Re: SureStore 6000 C1533A and Windows XP
Doesn't immediately sound like a drive issue.
What driver are you using for the tape drive?
Is there anything posted in the windows eventlogs (system event log and app log) at the time of failure?

Re: SureStore 6000 C1533A and Windows XP
Tape Drive: HP 01/23/2003 v1.5.0.1, SCSI Controller: MS 07/01/2001 v5.1.2600.1106,
System event log: "Library Hewlett Packard DDS2 drive failed to write a Free media label on media 4 because the media is write protected." The application then hangs.
After killing it app log: "Hanging application ntbackup.exe, version 5.1.2600.0, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000."
On second attempt sys log: "Library Hewlett Packard DDS2 drive failed to write a Free media label on media 5 because RSM found a different piece of media in the library than was selected for the move to Free pool operation." Application hung again.
