Symantec BackupExec 12 / G2 1/8 920 Autoloader hardware error.

Am experiencing a hardware error with backupexec and my HP 1/8 Ultrium 920 G2 Autoloader. I have tried the following:

1. Updated firmware on drive and changer
2. Updated drivers to latest version
3. Updated backupexec to SP1
4. Changed SCSI ID
5. Set removable storage service to manual.

LTT reported no errors. Any help would be much appreciated!

Can you please be more specific with the hardware error you are experiencing?
What hardware error you are getting, what type of connection between Autoloader and Server, what HBA is the Autoloader attached to, and finally be aware that Removable Storage should be Stop and better Disable.
I work for HPE

Re: Symantec BackupExec 12 / G2 1/8 920 Autoloader hardware error.

Sorry for the non specific query.

1. The hardware error is "e00084ed - A hardware error occurred". This only happens when backup exec starts its backup job.

2. External SCSI connection between drive and server using supplied hp scsi cable.

3. Attached to an LSI U320 SCSI card which has the latest drivers.

I will try stopping the removable storage server as well but any further help would be much appreciated.
I have followed the procedure on the symantec knowledge base (enabling robotic library support etc.) for this particular fault code in backupexec.

Re: Symantec BackupExec 12 / G2 1/8 920 Autoloader hardware error.

It would help if you could post the L&TT ticket.

Most internet hits point to problems with SCSI cabling for that error. I found one where they didn't have a terminator installed on the second port and another with a bad cable.

Is there anything in the L&TT support ticket device health section device analysis results to suggest SCSI cable issues?

Re: Symantec BackupExec 12 / G2 1/8 920 Autoloader hardware error.

Thanks for the replies.

Finally fixed the problem, the scsi cable/terminators were connected the wrong way round (although I thought that didnt make a difference?)

Now working great.
