The removal worked, however, now the drive won't read tapes. The light just blinks for a few seconds and then it spits the tape back out.

removal doesn't guarantee the drive still works. after all there is a reason why the tape got stuck in the first place. I would download Library and Tape tools from here and see fi you need a firmware upgrade or anything
