Ultrium 448 Internal Tape Drive & Win XP pro & Tapeware

HI,

after reading other forum Q & As I didn??t find a solution to my problem so here goes :

Problem:

Tapeware Backup ( Ver. 7.0 sp7d ) works fine for a few days ( from 2 to 10 ) and then errors, either the data base is damaged or it can??t find the Storage Server, after restoring Tapeware & database it works fine for a few days and then errors !!

I have attached TTL report.

Other problem is that I can??t find a device driver for use under Win XP Pro. Under devices is a yellow Q-mark shown for the Ultrium-2 device.

any ideas ??

Paul.

Re: Ultrium 448 Internal Tape Drive & Win XP pro & Tapeware

Hi Paul,

I think there might be a couple of things going on here.

First I'd make sure that your Window's configuration is OK. The best tool for that is HP's Library & Tape Tools (L&TT). The latest version is available free for download. I'm not sure of the exact location but you can start at http://hp.com/go/tape and you should see a link to the download. You should also be able to find the drivers you are looking for by starting there.

After you do the basic L&TT connectivity tests and verify that everything is OK in Windows, you might also try checking the TapeWare knowledgebase on Yosemite Technology's website at http://yosemitetech.com/support/

Re: Ultrium 448 Internal Tape Drive & Win XP pro & Tapeware

Hi Dave,

I have ver. 4.2 L&TT (see att.)

Have searched Frecomm & tapeware homepages , but as yet still haven├В┬┤t managed to find a XP dev driver !!

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=463703&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=463702&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=1093

even direct from HP no XP driver to be found !

Will change RAM and update SCSI adapter , have already done Firmware update ( S53D from S24D )

maybe its a cooling problem, although I don├В┬┤t see why this should corrupt the Tapeware system, Have checked the Win log files, can├В┬┤t find a problem , although the system restarts itself, just after the tapeware backup starts !!

Obviously I can├В┬┤t keep removing / Installing tapeware & rebuilding the data every 5 days !!

any other ideas ??

Hi Paul,

You can check in the next link if your unit, OS and backup software is compatible.

Yosemite tapeware is not supported with Ultrium 448int
This matrix doesn├В┬┤t show anything about WinXP

ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/products/storageworks/techdoc/ebs/EBSMatrix-1206.pdf

If you need L&TT download link:

Keep learning!!!

Re: Ultrium 448 Internal Tape Drive & Win XP pro & Tapeware

Hi Mesco,

Hmm normally I would say that you are right , however as the drive was delivered incl. Yosimite tapeware ( 7.0 Sp7D ) , Its originally a freecom OEM product , I have to asume that It should work with this software.

After checking thru the TT & L reports I have noticed that the only problem I have ist over-heating, cold is by 39c and hot is about 59c, but reading thru various forums I get the answer that when the drive gets too hot, it simply reduces its data speed, which dosent help me resolve the tapeware error problem.

I have run a few backups , Full ( 2hours ) with a hour between , It has since completed run 4 of six without error.

Mybe it was the SCSi adapter ( LSI 53C1010R ) I have installed the Win ASPI driver , I have also changed the SYS fan ( 12cm instead of 8 cm , which should help keep the sys cooler, I will also install a HDD cooler , which hopefully will keep the drive HOT levels to a minimum.

( just for info, Its a german bought system, but since I am english I find it easier to ask question , and understand them using this forum , and yes I am living / working in germany )

Am greatfull for any other theories, help.

Paul
