ULTRIUM 448 Problems

Hello,

We've recently got an ultrium 448 scsi external drive, and got it connected to our server with an HP adaptec 2120s raid controller.

The server runs on a serial ata raid 5, (1Tb) and so the ultrium drive is the only device attached to the scsi raid card.
We got that card since we plan to purchase a scsi raid in the future..

Anyways, the card bios recognizes the drive (even if it's not installing himself since there's no logical drives) and the device is recognized by windows too. (drivers are the last version and they're correctly installed).

The only problem is that even if i can see the device in all aspects of windows (it's even in the adaptec storage manager) the HP L&TT can't talk to it (it's listed with a red X on top, seems to be deaf to inquiries from the app) and Data Protector doesn't even see it.

The scsi # is set on 3, card on 7, correctly terminated (at least i think so).

I'm losing patience, can anyone help? thanks.

take it off the RAID controller. They don't handle tape drives well. Put it on a seperate SCSI controller

Re: ULTRIUM 448 Problems

Unfortunately i don't have any scsi controller left, and since they tend to cost a bit i'd pefer to stick with the raid card i already have.
Is there a way to make things work as they are?

Thanks

No. RAID Controllers just don't play nice with Tape drives.
