Re: Ultrium 920 SAS cleanning head ?

Inserting a cleaning tape is the only way.

But most of the time issues are related to mechanical problems - in this case you need to replace the drive.

Hope this helps!

Actually the cleaning tape was a brand new and did actually nothing when we tried to clean that up. The SAS keep generating an error message about cleaning it again. So we actually tried it but nothing seems to work. So the opening it and cleaning it manually was the next thing that I had in mind.

Re: Ultrium 920 SAS cleanning head ?

If there are issues while read/write the only idea of backup software etc is to clean the head. But most of the times issues are due to mechanical problems inside the drive, so there is nothing you can do except replace the drive. Consider to use LTT meanwhile to run an assessment test.

Where are you getting that error message?

I Agree with Torstem about Running assessment test to confirm status of drive.
If the drive has severe cleaning problem then use the cleaning media three times in a row then check the status.
Hope this will help
Cheers!!
