VERITAS issue: jobs queued

We have a DL380. DAT72 tape drive.
Windows 2000 Advanced Server SP4
VERITAS Backup Exec 8.60.

For some reason I am not able to determine or work out, during the last 3 weeks, all jobs submitted get queued.
I noticed under the devices tab, server status was paused, I thought sure enough that was the reason all of our jobs got queued. So I resumed the server only to find out nothing changed.
Is there a way to solve this situation and perform the backup jobs?
I have recently pluged in a new device.
I unpluged the Compaq AIT 50 tape drive unit and got a new HP DAT 72.
I installed the drivers, plus the VERITAS device drivers.
I have tried using the tape device with ntbackup and works okay.
Is there anything I'm missing?

Thank you and regards.

Re: VERITAS issue: jobs queued

Just make sure the backup jobs are pointing to the new device, if they are pointng to the AIT 50 they won't run

Re: VERITAS issue: jobs queued

Can you inventory and erase the tapes? I'll assume you purchased the correct tapes. Make sure the media set is set correctly and the jobs point to that media set. Try creating a new job and see if it will run.

Re: VERITAS issue: jobs queued

Nope.
I can't either inventory or erase the tapes.
At least the tape I'm using, came together with the drive tape. I assume at least this one's good.

Regarding the media set, see attached. I kept default values; that is:
Append period: Infinite - Allow append.

I created a new backup job, pointed to the right device and media set. still got queued.

Re: VERITAS issue: jobs queued

I would find out first why I can't inventory or erase the tape. Make sure the Removable Storage manager service is stopped and set to manual. Stop all of the backup exec services. Download Library and Tape Tools 3.5 sr2. Execute L&TT's and with the tape inserted go to the Test tab and run a read write test. Under Support there is an option to save the support ticket to file. Zip it up and post it here, those guys are good about responding to support tickets.

Re: VERITAS issue: jobs queued

I've followed your instrucitions step by step.
under L&TT, I see only:
Restore and Backup Pre-Test
which one you mean?

gotta go.
tahnk you much.
BTW, This is importatnt.

I'll be back tomorrow.

Re: VERITAS issue: jobs queued

having a look at Veritas website:

Bexec 8.6 do not appear to support DAT72

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/272874.htm

but Bexec 10.0 support it

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/274347.htm

I think you need to upgrade your sw in order to use it with new DAT72

Re: VERITAS issue: jobs queued

You guys are just the best.

I also found HP Storageworks DAT72 is also compatible with Backup Exec 9.0.
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/271382.htm

We'd better upgrade to version 10.0 though.
Thank you much.

Re: VERITAS issue: jobs queued

Hi Edgar,

I don't have a solution to your problem, but perhaps you can help me. I have a DL380G2 running Windows 2000 server, an AIT50 internal hot-plug drive, a 5302 controler, and Backup Exec. 8.6. The server has 5 hard drives and the tape drive internally connected to the controller.

However, I can't get the backups to run with this drive. I just installed the drive (replacing a DAT20/40). The server sees the drive, and Backup Exec sees the drive, but when I try to run a backup I get timeout problems and the event viewer fills with cpqcissm errors.

Did you have to do anything special on your system to get the AIT 50 to work?

Re: VERITAS issue: jobs queued

The drive and the software was already installed when I was hired.
See if Removable Storage service is running.
