VS160: new tapes all give read/write (dirty) errors

VS160 initially in service fall 2005. Had been getting occasional dirty/read-write errors and failing jobs, so tapes replaced. *ALL* new tapes giving error now, but if a "good" tape from old batch used, does not error. Help! (And yes, cleaning tape has been used in between jobs when cleaning needed indicated).

It sounds like (not a technical analysis or anything) the tape heads have gotten out of alignment over time.

I'd suggest you run the drive assessment tests from HP's free Library and Tape Tools and see what you find out. You can go to hp.com/go/tape and see the link under "value add software" for the download.
