What tapes in HP StorageWorks 1/8 Ultrium 920 G2 Tape Autoloader (AH165a)

Hi there,

I saw thee specs for this unit but want to be sure. We've got this unit, running for 2 years, with the same LTO2 tapes. I want to replace the tape.

According to the specs, it says compatible with LTO3 and LTO4. Also back-up speed should improve. LTO3/4 is more expensive then LTO2, so if the LTO3/4 is realy faster I can confince my manager to buy LTO3/4.

What are your experiences?

Also, is it correct you only need 1 clean tape, insert it, and the unit cleans itself and ejects it?

Hello,

you can only use LTO3 media with your autoloader. Your drive can write to LTO 3/2 Media and read LTO 3/2/1 Media. You can achieve faster backups if your environment supports higher bandwith to the tape. You can store more data on LTO3 media than on LTO2 media.
