Extending existing StorageWorks 8/8 fabric with new SN6000B switches

Dear colleauges,

we are currently running two redundant fabrics and each fabric consists of three StorageWorks 8/8 switches that we already have upgraded to Fabric OS v7.4.2c. We now would like to add one HP SN6000B switch to each fabric that we have upgraded to Fabric OS v8.2.1.

According to the release notes of Fabric OS, both versions interoperate with each other. In addition to upgrading the firmware to supported versions we made sure that no zoning configuration on the SN6000B switches exists and changed their domain IDs to unique ones that currently don't exist in the fabrics.

As to my understanding, we now just have to connect the SN6000B to the existing switches and they should inherit the existing zoning configuration.

Is there anything else we need to do or are the steps taken sufficent for adding the switches? I have a note that is quite a few years old that says I have to disable the new switch before connecting it to the existing fabric. Is that still necessary?

Hi

If your new switch has a different domain ID and no zoning 

configuration. it will connect to the existing fabric and

load the fabric zoning configuration.

it is good to open CLI connection to see "switchshow" or "fabricshow"

for any errors.

after that it might be good to upgrade all your existing switches to the same

level of firmware as the new one.

but it will work also if you don't
