to use LACP you can use the higherend swithces from HP that support distributed trunking. With this you have 2 active links distributed over 2 switches. We have it running on muliple sites and works like a charm.

Looked it up, distributed trunking is available on the ProCurve 3500YL-24G http://h10144.www1.hp.com/docs/products/brochures/5400_3500%20Product%20Brochure4AA0-4236ENW.pdf
